Polyester can be produced using recycled resources and has a lower environmental impact than fresh raw materials. Therefore, it is more environmentally friendly than pure polyester. There are still opportunities for development to make the substance more sustainable.
It is actually very difficult to recycle items made from mixed materials, rather than being made entirely from recycled polyester. Additionally, mechanical recycling produces weaker polyesters. Therefore, this fabric is often combined with pure polyester. However, the demand for recycled polyester is growing; therefore, the product has the potential to continue to be sustainable in the future.
Application of Recycled Polyester Yarn
Recycled polyester filament yarns are widely used in the textile and apparel industry. Since it is a highly durable yarn, the fabric also has excellent durability. This property makes this yarn perfect for sportswear. Commonly used in handkerchiefs, scarves, cheongsam, shirts, skirts, suspenders, and children's clothing.
Polyester recycled yarn is also used to manufacture different home textiles. Home textiles such as bed sheets, sleeping bags, quilts, soft furniture and upholstery are made from this material. Textile manufacturers also use the yarn to produce fashion umbrellas, luggage, gift bags and other bags. Most of the time, it is used to manufacture textiles that require GRS certification.
Is recycled polyester safe to wear?
In terms of safety, there is no difference between virgin polyester and recycled polyester. Both textiles are safe to use and wear. Cotton pillowcases and sheets are not recommended if you have asthma. Although polyester is not very flammable, you must avoid wearing it near open flames.
Polyester is no safer than comparable fabrics. The main changes are in the specific properties of the fabric, such as its elasticity and ease of recycling. Polyester is particularly interesting in this regard, as other fabrics are either not recyclable or difficult to recycle.
